Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda has taken another bold step toward a green industrial future with the opening of the National E-Mobility Expo 2025, a two-day event running from September 18–19 at the state-of-the-art Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja.
Under the theme, “Powering Innovation, Accelerating Industrialization, and Shaping Africa’s Green Future,” the expo brings together policymakers, financiers, innovators, and the public to showcase Uganda’s growing role as a continental hub for electric mobility solutions.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural edition, the 2025 expo reflects the country’s progress in implementing its National E-Mobility Strategy, championed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Uganda has already attracted more than $180 million in investments, set up capacity to produce 10,000 electric vehicles annually, and rolled out over 400 charging and swapping stations nationwide.
Significantly, 40% of vehicle components are produced locally, a milestone that is boosting domestic industries, developing skills, and enhancing energy security.
Speaking ahead of the expo, organizers described the event as a turning point for Uganda’s industrial transformation.
“The National E-Mobility Expo 2025 is not just a showcase but a call to action,” said officials from Kiira Motors Corporation.
“It is about building partnerships, driving innovation, and ensuring Uganda becomes a net source of mobility solutions for Africa.”
The program features panel discussions on financing and infrastructure, guided tours of the Kiira Vehicle Plant, and a marketplace of Ugandan innovations.
A specially curated “Deal Room” will provide space for partnerships and investment opportunities, ensuring that dialogue translates into tangible outcomes.
The expo is hosted by Kiira Motors Corporation in partnership with the Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI-OP), the Government Citizens Interaction Centre (GCIC), and the Presidential CEO Forum (PCF).
Kiira Motors, Uganda’s flagship automotive enterprise, has already demonstrated the viability of e-mobility solutions through its Kayoola bus series, which has covered more than two million kilometers and attracted interest from other African nations.
The Jinja-based plant, hailed as the most advanced bus-manufacturing facility in Africa, aims to achieve 65% local content by 2030 and create over 14,000 jobs.
Beyond vehicles, the corporation is working to shape the broader mobility ecosystem by deploying EV charging infrastructure and pioneering business models such as Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS).
With more than 5,000 delegates expected, the National E-Mobility Expo 2025 is poised to consolidate Uganda’s leadership in Africa’s green mobility revolution.
