Next Media Launches Next Creata to Create 1.5 Million Jobs

Africa-Press – Uganda. Next Media has launched a new initiative called Next Creata aimed at creating employment opportunities to over 1.5 million Ugandans across the country as well as adding value to content creators.

The Chief executive officer at Next Media, Kin Kariisa says the initiative aims to improve skills, empower African content and talents in different regions of the country and ensure that creators earn from their creative works.

While officiating at the launch , the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, advised content creators to focus on producing valuable and meaningful work, rather than using their platforms to insult or degrade others.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic between 2019 and 2021 led to an increase in unemployment rates across the country and an economic slowdown forced many businesses to shut down.

In response, artists, entertainers, and other creatives choose to collaborate with television stations like NBS and Sanyuka TV, to promote and expand their reach to audiences across the country in what they termed as E-concerts.

“Protection of content creators is key, government has been slow on consumer protection law but we shall do some things about it too. Also some of the taxes need a study because some affects digital creators work especially on importation of equipment “ Tayebwa says

Tayebwa further urged all creatives to have the need for content that adds value and is educative.

“ The internet can never forget, the content you do defines you. Endeavor to do content that is educative, that which does not degrade morals”

Several creators who attended the launch welcomed the initiative, saying they have long worked without clear structures or support systems.

The Chief Executive of Afro Mobile, Kevin Keija, noted that this collaboration will help bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, giving creators a better platform to earn and grow.

The Director economic regulation content and consumer affairs at Uganda communications commission, Julianne Mweheire says this is going to help close the gap of informality and gender inequality with in the content creators.

The managing director at Uganda development bank, Dr. Patricia Ojangole says this Isma going to open a new chapter in Uganda’s digital story since the creative sector is not just about entertainment but jobs too.
