Africa-Press – Uganda. NRM youths in Mbale City have launched a vigorous mobilization campaign aimed at raising President Yoweri Museveni’s support from 39 to 80 percent ahead of the 2026 general elections.
During the 2021 elections, President Museveni secured 39 percent of the vote in Mbale City and 60.7 percent in the wider Bugisu subregion. The youth say this performance does not reflect the strength of NRM structures on the ground and have vowed to change the narrative.
The campaign, launched at the Mayor’s Gardens in Mbale City, attracted hundreds of youths clad in yellow T-shirts. They held a procession through the city streets before converging to declare renewed support for the President and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
According to organizers, the initiative will focus on mobilization, civic education, and grassroots engagement to consolidate support for the NRM and its flag bearers across all levels.
Mbale City NRM Youth Chairperson Pius Mude acknowledged the party’s poor electoral performance in the city despite its strong membership base, saying a more rigorous approach will be adopted this time to ensure better results.
“We are going door to door to ensure that all our flag bearers win,” Mude said. “Across our structures, NRM commands about 99 percent support, yet the President’s performance here has been low. That’s why we, the youth, are joining hands to raise President Museveni’s support from 39 to 80 percent in the next election.”
The event was graced by Fiona Naku, the National Coordinator of Youths for President Museveni, who urged the youth to take a lead in rebuilding party confidence and to work closely with women, whom she described as the largest and most influential voting bloc.
“We have the numbers, but this must be reflected in elections,” Naku said. “We can’t claim to be a mass party while delivering only 39 percent. This time, we must deliver results.”
In a symbolic gesture of loyalty, the youths autographed a large portrait of President Museveni, pledging total commitment to his candidature and vowing to deliver a decisive victory for the NRM in the 2026 general elections.
