Africa-Press – Uganda. The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, has lauded WATSAN Uganda UK Support Group for its sustained efforts to provide safe and clean drinking water to communities across the Diocese.

During a courtesy visit to the Diocesan headquarters in Kinyasano, Rukungiri, Bishop Asiimwe welcomed the group’s Chairperson, Eng Graham Piper, and his wife, Dr Phillipa Piper, expressing gratitude for their ongoing partnership and dedication to improving livelihoods through sustainable water and sanitation initiatives.

Describing the WATSAN UK team as compassionate servants, the Bishop said their work reflects the love of Jesus Christ in practical action.

“To have friends who support us in providing safe and clean drinking water is a tremendous gift to our people. We thank God for this partnership and call upon Christians everywhere to continue praying for sustainable water systems across our country,” he said.

Eng. Graham Piper recounted that his passion for water ministry began in 1985 when he visited Kabale and witnessed the severe challenges communities faced in accessing clean water.

The current visit, he noted, focused on benchmarking ongoing projects, assessing progress, and strengthening collaboration to ensure long-term sustainability.

Quoting Philippians 1:4–8, Eng. Piper emphasized that WATSAN’s mission extends beyond infrastructure to sharing the Gospel through practical acts of service.

“Our commitment is not only to provide water but to walk alongside communities in faith and partnership. Sustainability, accountability, and empowerment remain central to everything we do,” he said.

The Diocesan Coordinator for NKKD WATSAN, Rev. Moses Kabareebe, urged WATSAN committee members to prioritize sustainability and accountability in all water and sanitation projects across North Kigezi and Kinkiizi Dioceses, ensuring lasting impact for generations.

The meeting was attended by key Diocesan leaders and WATSAN committee members, including the Diocesan Secretary Rev.

Munturive Nshaba Ruhanga, Bishop’s wife Ms Florence Asiimwe, Treasurer Olivia Tumwebaze, Internal Auditor Micheal Mukiza, Education Coordinator Rev Evas Arinaitwe, Household Community Coordinator Alex Nathan Mugabe, Health Coordinator Dr. Edson Masiko, Finance Officer Miriam Namara, and Sustainability Mobilizer Marius Katunguka.

The Diocese reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote safe water access, improved sanitation, and holistic community transformation grounded in Christian values.
