Africa-Press – Uganda. The Director General of Health Services, Charles Olaro, has presided over the handover of motorcycles to 14 District Health Educators (DHEs), a move aimed at strengthening disease prevention and community health supervision across Uganda.

The motorcycles are expected to significantly improve the mobility of District Health Educators within their respective districts, enabling them to more effectively monitor and supervise Community Health Workers, as well as coordinate other disease prevention and health promotion activities at the grassroots level.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Olaro emphasized the critical role District Health Educators play in Uganda’s health system, particularly in driving preventive health campaigns, community sensitization, and supporting surveillance efforts. He noted that improved mobility will enhance timely follow-up, data collection, and response to public health concerns.

The motorcycles were procured with support from the Global Fund through The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), underscoring continued collaboration between government and development partners in strengthening Uganda’s health systems.

Health officials say the support is expected to boost supervision of Community Health Workers, improve coordination of outreach programmes, and enhance implementation of disease prevention strategies at district and community levels.
