Africa-Press – Uganda. The government has been urged to prioritize religious institutions and faith leaders in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS, as part of efforts to eliminate the disease by 2030.

The call was made by leaders from the Seventh-day Adventist Church during a meeting with officials from the Uganda AIDS Commission. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Church and the Commission to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Tom Etii from the Uganda AIDS Commission said the Commission is continuing to engage religious leaders from different faiths to help the country meet its 2030 target.

“We are working closely with religious leaders of all faiths to ensure Uganda achieves its goal of ending HIV/AIDS by 22030.Dr Etii Said

Leaders from the Seventh-day Adventist Church also emphasized the importance of fully involving faith-based institutions in all national strategies against the disease.

“Religious institutions play a key role in shaping community values and behavior, and they should be fully included in the fight against HIV/AIDS.”

“We will use our gospel platforms, especially during prayer days, to educate the public about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and ways to prevent its spread.”

The leaders expressed commitment to partnering with government agencies to strengthen awareness, prevention, and community engagement initiatives across the country
