Africa-Press – Uganda. The newly installed Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, Bishop Gaster Nsereko, visited Mengo to reinforce the collaboration between the diocese and the Buganda Kingdom. He was accompanied by his wife, children, and members of the diocesan administrative team.
During the visit, Bishop Nsereko praised the Kabaka’s government for its community development initiatives, particularly in Buddu.
“I thank the Kabaka’s government for the services that have improved people’s lives, especially in Buddu,” Bishop Nsereko said.
He highlighted key initiatives such as the construction of Mukungwe Health Centre, blood donation drives, agricultural support under the Emmwanyi Terimba campaign, and education projects like Pookino Nursery School, which aim to enhance early childhood learning.
Bishop Nsereko stressed the importance of Church–Kingdom collaboration.
“I am very happy with the cooperation between the Church and the Buganda Kingdom because we move together in serving God’s people, and I am committed to strengthening this relationship,” he said.
Welcoming him, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, emphasized that excellence in service determines success.
“What determines success in service is the quality a person demonstrates in their work. Bishop Nsereko has shown quality in his pastoral service in different areas, which is why he was entrusted with this responsibility,” Mayiga said, encouraging leaders to serve diligently wherever they are posted.
On the historical bond between the Kingdom and the Church of Uganda, the Katikkiro added:
“There is nothing that can separate the Buganda Kingdom from Christianity. If it were not for the Kingdom, Christianity would not have taken root in Uganda. The work done by the Church directly supports Buganda.”
Bishop Gaster Nsereko was enthroned on 30 November 2025, succeeding the retired Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale.
