Buganda Kingdom Launches 2026 Luwalo Lwaffe Fundraising Drive

Africa-Press – Uganda. Buganda Kingdom has officially launched its 2026 fundraising campaign, Luwalo Lwaffe, calling on the subjects, friends and well-wishers of the Kabaka to support the kingdom’s development initiatives.

The launch was held on Tuesday at the Kingdom headquarters in Bulange, Mengo, where the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, addressed the best-performing contributors of 2025.

Mayiga highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that contributions from Luwalo Lwaffe remain the Kingdom’s primary source of funding.

“Last year, Luwalo raised more than Shs1.9 billion. Those funds reflect the unyielding spirit of Buganda — a spirit rooted in love for our nation, through which we dedicate ourselves to defending it, sustaining it, and ensuring that it progresses,” Mayiga said.

He encouraged the people of Buganda to embrace development programs, particularly in commercial agriculture such as coffee growing, while emphasizing that the initiative operates under strict principles of transparency and accountability.

The Kingdom publishes an annual financial report detailing fund utilization.

Projects supported by last year’s contributions include the establishment of nursery schools in multiple counties, purchase of equipment for the kingdom’s hospital in Ssingo, completion of the Kasubi Royal Tombs, facilitation of administrative operations, and funding toward a stadium in Buddu.

Mayiga urged Kabaka’s subjects to continue raising standards in 2026 across sectors such as agriculture, trade, and healthcare.

The Minister of Local Government, Kabaka’s Tours and Diaspora Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, presented audited 2025 figures confirming collections exceeded Shs1.9 billion.

He also announced top-performing counties, sub-counties, institutions, parishes, and households, with Kyaddondo County emerging overall as the top contributor, followed by Buddu, Busiro, Ssingo, and Kyaggwe.

Awards were presented in recognition of their contributions.

Bukomansimbi South MP-elect, Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi, pledged support for the Kingdom’s programs, contributing Shs5 million and committing to renovate his sub-county headquarters.

Additionally, six sub-counties from Bulemeezi County presented contributions totaling over Shs23 million.

The launch ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, ministers including Noah Kiyimba and Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, and other officials and subjects of the Kabaka.
