Africa-Press – Uganda. The Government of Uganda, through the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green Hydrogen Fertilizer Company (GHFC) to promote fertilizer use and improve agricultural productivity.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Kampala Serena Hotel, will support farmer training, strengthen extension services, and improve monitoring of fertilizer distribution and usage across the country.

PACEID Head of Secretariat Matthew Bagonza signed on behalf of Uganda, and Kinar Kent for GHFC.

Speaking at the signing, Matthew Bagonza, said the partnership is key to transforming Uganda’s agriculture into a competitive, export-oriented sector.

“This partnership is about moving Uganda’s agriculture from low-input, low-output systems to high-productivity, market-oriented production that can compete globally,” Bagonza said.

Kinar Kent, Chief Executive Officer of GHFC welcomed the partnership and expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development for their continued support toward the project.

He noted that the collaboration provides a strong foundation for advancing Uganda’s fertilizer production capacity and supporting long-term agricultural transformation.

The collaboration will include establishment of demonstration farms, training of extension workers and agro-dealers, and use of government systems such as the Agricultural Cluster Development Programme (ACDP) e-voucher platform to track fertilizer use.

Representing the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Dr. Paul Mwambu, Inspector for Crop Inspection and Certification at MAAIF, reaffirmed government’s commitment to the success of the project.

He emphasized that MAAIF will continue to facilitate the company, particularly in final product testing and certification processes required to bring fertilizer products to market.

“We shall continue to support GHFC, especially in facilitating final product tests and any other required certifications,” Dr. Mwambu stated.

GHFC is developing a fertilizer plant in Uganda expected to produce about 200,000 tonnes annually, a move expected to improve availability and affordability of fertilizer in the country.

The initiative is expected to boost yields for key crops such as coffee, maize, and cocoa, while strengthening value chains and increasing Uganda’s export potential.

Present to witness were; Asmund Aukrust, Norwegian Minister of International Developmen, Tone Tinnes – Norway’s Ambassador to East Africa, alongside other officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and PACEID.
