Bukedea Turns out for Muhoozi’S 52Nd Birthday Run

Africa-Press – Uganda. Residents of Bukedea District joined the rest of the country in a run to mark the 52nd birthday of Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, with leaders using the event to promote unity, patriotism, and youth empowerment.

The event drew hundreds of participants, including students, local officials, and community members, reflecting a growing trend of public mobilization around celebrations linked to the army chief.

Member of Parliament-elect David Bitcham Okware represented the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among at the function, where he urged residents to embrace a shared national vision.

“I extend my gratitude to PLU and General MK for reaching this milestone. As the people of Bukedea, our participation reflects unity and our belief in a shared national vision,” Okware said.

He described the run as more than a birthday celebration, saying it symbolized collective commitment to national transformation under the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

According to Okware, the event brought together communities across Bukedea and the wider Teso sub-region, reinforcing messages of togetherness, faith, and inclusion in Uganda’s development agenda.

He also revealed a scholarship initiative attributed to the Speaker, under which each Member of Parliament in the 12th Parliament is expected to nominate one student per constituency for free education at Bukedea Comprehensive School or its affiliated nursing institution.

“This translates to hundreds of beneficiaries nationwide. It is a demonstration of commitment to education and youth empowerment,” he said.

Bukedea Resident District Commissioner Wilberforce Tukei praised the government for maintaining peace and stability, noting that such conditions enable community events and public participation.

Students from Bukedea Comprehensive School were among the most active participants. Head Prefect Oweredo Nimrod said the run served as an inspiration to young people and underscored their role in shaping the country’s future.

The event also featured cash prizes for top performers, adding excitement and encouraging broader participation among youth and residents.

Organisers and leaders said the run not only celebrated Gen. Muhoozi’s milestone but also strengthened community bonds and encouraged active civic engagement, particularly among young people.
