Africa-Press – Uganda. Traffic at Wandago on the Jinja-Iganga Highway on Sunday morning came to a standstill as Traffic Police attempted to remove the wreckage of a fuel tanker that completely destroyed in a fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the tanker swerved off the road after its driver reportedly lost control and fell into a trench on Saturday night.
The accident triggered a fire that quickly consumed the tanker and burnt it beyond recognition. The vehicle’s registration plates were also destroyed in the blaze.
Two Somali nationals who were in the tanker escaped unhurt. The pair however declined to speak about the incident and deferred to their boss who they said would be at the scene later on Sunday.
The cause of the accident is still unknown and by press time, traffic officers who declined to comment on the incident were still removing the wreckage in order to ease traffic flow.
