Traffic boss Mugisha ordered to hand over to Nuwabiine

Africa-PressUganda. Former Kampala Metropolitan Head of Traffic in the Uganda Police Force, Lawrence Nuwabiine is back as Acting Director Traffic and Road Safety after Basil Mugisha who has been the Acting Director was ordered to hand over office

Sources in police confirmed that Mugisha was asked to hand over after being accused of failing to control traffic issues. On Friday evening, Mugisha sent close friends a message indicating he had handed over. “I have handed over office to Commissioner of Police Lawrence Nuwabiine. Please offer him all the necessary cooperation,” Mugisha informed his colleagues.Efforts to get a comment from Police on Saturday evening proved futile. Saturday Vision has seen a copy of the police Transfer/Appointment message dated December 29, 2020, and sent to all Units and Directors by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ochola notifying them of the changes.Nuwabiine had been benched by former IGP Kale Kayihura in 2014 as the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police commander and replaced by Norman Musinga. He has been at the Human Resource Department of the force where Mugisha has been sent.Sources in police noted that ever since the retirement of Dr Steven Kasiima in June 2020, police had failed to get a suitable replacement to occupy the office.
