SERERE – The paramount chief of Iteso, Emorimor Augustin Lemukol Osuban, has asked his subjects to desist from acts of violence during this election period. He also urged them to observe the Ministry of Health guidelines to stem the spread of COVID-19. In his New Year’s message to his subjects, Osuban emphasised the need for peaceful elections, as well as maintaining harmony.”We are in the middle of electioneering and it is my hope that we shall witness successful, free and fair elections. I pray to God to guide us on the right path,” the emorimor said. On the coronavirus pandemic, Osuban reminded his subjects to always wear masks, wash hands and practise social distancing so as to prevent the spread of the virus. “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones to coronavirus and other illnesses. “It is our hope that COVID-19 will begin to wane sometime in 2021, ushering in more secure times. In the meantime, each one of us must individually assume responsibility to observe standard operating procedures,” he said. Osuban, who was speaking from his home in Serere district, further cautioned his subjects against domestic violence, emphasising the need for couples to promote love and unity. He explained that families where cases of domestic violence occur have left children suffering, with some abandoning their homes for street life.
