ARUA – The LC1 chairperson of Sambya South cell in Arua Hill ward, Arua city, Moses Amodo, is stranded with a child of about two years. The child was reportedly abandoned by suspected thieves who took off after being found stealing second-hand shoes at Sambya trading centre in Arua city on December 30. Amodo said on the fateful day, he was at his home when a shopkeeper reported a case of theft by two young people.

He said the shopkeeper tried to arrest them, but they took off, leaving a young girl behind.Consequently, the shopkeeper took the girl to the nearby Police post, where she was advised to take the child to the area LC1 chairperson. “After receiving the child, I called most of the neighbouring local council chairpersons, but no one has come to pick the child. I even went to the religious leaders to announce during New Year’s prayers, but there has been no feedback,” Amodo said. He said the child cannot talk, so it is difficult to establish her parents or where she comes from.
