Politicians cautioned against involving Obusinga in partisan campaigns

Africa-PressUganda. #ElectionsWatch2021|CULTURE|OBUSINGAKASESE – The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu cultural institution in Kasese district has cautioned political aspirants against mixing affairs of the institution in their campaigns.Joseph Kule Muranga, the kingdom’s prime minister, said candidates should tell the electorates what they will do for them without hiding behind Obusinga.”The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu cultural institution appreciates seeing many of her sons and daughters vying for various political offices through the electoral process. However, we are concerned that some candidates are going about the campaigns recklessly,” Muranga said.He noted that the institution is not to be used as a vehicle for ascending to political offices. “The cultural institution is not running for an office. We, therefore, advise all politicians to desist from invoking Obusinga in their campaigns,” Muranga said.He noted that the responsibility and mandate of speaking for and on behalf of Rwenzururu is only a preserve of the kingdom’s prime minister and ministers.Muranga also cautioned aspirants against making political statements about the Rwenzururu royal guards that are in jail, saying the matter should be left to the kingdom leadership to handle.Various politicians, including presidential candidates, have told the people of Kasese that they will release the Omusinga, Charles Wesley Mumbere, who is facing charges of treason, terrorism and murder and remains barred from the kingdom since 2016.
