Africa-Press – Uganda. Busoga Kingdom officials met with Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development representatives to discuss the Buyende Nuclear Power Project.
The meeting, held at the Kingdom’s headquarters, aimed to forge a partnership and collaboration between the two parties.
Alhajj Osman Noor Ahmed, the second deputy Katukiro and head of partnerships in Busoga Kingdom, led the Kingdom’s delegation.
He conveyed greetings from His Majesty the Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, and Mama Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi.
“We appreciate the government’s efforts to develop our region through the nuclear power project,” Owek. Osman said. “However, we have concerns that need to be addressed, including fair compensation, environmental protection, and job opportunities for our people.”
Sarah Nafuna, Acting Commissioner Nuclear Energy, assured the Kingdom officials that the project would be undertaken in a manner that respects the traditions, customs, and interests of the Kingdom.
“The Buyende Nuclear Power project will provide a reliable and stable energy supply, enabling industrialization and energy security,” Nafuna explained.
“We are committed to working with the Kingdom to ensure the project’s success.”
The meeting was attended by various officials, including Speaker Busoga Kingdom Mutyabule George, Kyabazinga Affairs Minister Babirye Yudaya, and Ministry of Energy officials.
