Africa-Press – Uganda. The Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Justine Lumumba Kasule, has urged the Kalaki community to support police efforts in addressing rising cases of moral decay in the district.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Kalaki Baraza, Minister Lumumba expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of teenage pregnancies and other social challenges affecting young people.
Her remarks followed a presentation by Mahumbe Jackson, the District Police Commander (DPC), who highlighted the urgent need for community intervention.
“It should be a serious concern for everyone to see young girls getting pregnant at an early age,” Lumumba said, calling on parents to take responsibility for instilling discipline and cultural values in their children. She emphasised that restoring morality should not be left to law enforcement alone but should involve parents, local leaders, and cultural institutions.
“Our community must work hand in hand with the police to ensure that children grow up with the right values,” she added.
Her appeal comes amid growing concerns about early pregnancies and other social issues affecting Kalaki’s youth. She urged residents to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to curb such vices and safeguard the future of young people.
The event brought together district leaders, police officials, and community members, who acknowledged the need for stronger sensitisation, law enforcement, and cultural preservation. Leaders pledged to intensify efforts in tackling moral decay and promoting community values.
Minister Lumumba’s remarks serve as a call to action for parents and local authorities to play a more active role in shaping the values of the younger generation and upholding social norms.
