Africa-Press – Uganda. Luweero LC5 Chairperson Erasto Kibirango of the National Unity Platform (NUP) criticised the government for failing to complete key district projects, including headquarters construction and hospital upgrades.
The State Minister for Luweero Triangle, Alice Kaboyo, has urged opposition politicians to stop misleading residents into believing that the government has abandoned Luweero District.
Speaking at Konko Village in Zirobwe Sub-county while launching the rehabilitation of a 19.2-kilometer road network, Ms Kaboyo defended the government’s efforts, attributing delays in key projects to financial constraints.
The Shs1.3 billion road project, covering Janda-Ngalonkalu, Tongo-Baajja-Luteete, and Bulami-Buyuki-Busoke Swamp roads, is funded under the National Oil Seed Project (NOSP) with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
Luweero LC5 Chairperson Erasto Kibirango of the National Unity Platform (NUP) criticised the government for failing to complete key district projects, including headquarters construction and hospital upgrades.
Ms Kaboyo, however, dismissed claims of neglect and called for constructive engagement rather than public criticism.
State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, urged the contractor, Ms. Deha Investees, to involve locals in the project.
Meanwhile, area leaders welcomed the roadworks but raised concerns over dust pollution during construction.
Luweero has a 1,360-kilometer road network, with local authorities managing the bulk of it. The project aims to facilitate agricultural trade by improving transportation of oil seeds such as soya beans and groundnuts.
The contractor has eight months to complete the works.
While this development addresses some infrastructure challenges, local leaders continue to push for more government commitments to be met.
