Govt Committed to Modernizing, Transforming Uganda’S Land Management Systems- Minister Mayanja

Africa-Press – Uganda. The State Minister for lands and housing, Dr.Sam Mayanja has underscored the new government program that aims to ease getting of land titles for Ugandans.

Speaking in Kampala, Mayanja said since land is the foundation of livelihoods, economic empowerment, and national development, government has embarked on a mission to make land ownership accessible, transparent, and beneficial for all Ugandans.

“At the forefront of this mission is the Systematic Land Adjudication and Certification (SLAAC) Program, a groundbreaking initiative to accelerate land registration across the country. Through SLAAC, Ugandans can now register their land free of charge, ensuring that every individual—regardless of income or location—has the opportunity to secure their land rights,” Mayanja said.

“ This program is a significant step toward reducing land disputes, improving land tenure security, and unlocking the potential for increased agricultural productivity and investment.”

He also said in a bid to make land acquisition easy, decentralized , government has decentralization land registration services to 22 Ministry Zonal Offices across Uganda.

“This decentralization brings services closer to the people, reducing the burden of long travel and ensuring that citizens can easily access services such as land registration, title issuance, and dispute resolution.”

“By doing this, we are not only saving time and money for Ugandans but also building trust and efficiency into the land management process.”

According to the minister, to further enhance transparency and accountability, the government has introduced innovative digital solutions including the online land search functionality a system that has revolutionized the way land transactions are conducted in Uganda.

“This digital tool provides instant access to accurate land ownership information, allowing citizens, investors, and businesses to verify land titles and property details seamlessly, without the need for lengthy visits to land offices. It is a game-changer in the fight against fraud, as it eliminates the risk of counterfeit titles and multiple claims on the same piece of land.”

Minister Mayanja explained that this platform is designed to foster trust and accountability in land dealings.

“By providing real-time access to land records, the Online Land Search system enhances transparency, ensuring that all transactions are built on verified and credible information.”

“ It has also introduced unprecedented efficiency, significantly reducing the time and resources previously required to validate land ownership. From anywhere in Uganda, citizens can now access this service, making it more inclusive and accessible to all.”

He also mentioned integration of National ID validation which he said further strengthens the security of transactions, safeguarding landowners and investors against fraudulent activities.

“Alongside this, the government has introduced other innovations, such as the Online Mortgage Submission system, which simplifies access to financial support for property acquisition, and the Online Valuation system, which streamlines the process of property valuation, ensuring timeliness and accuracy. These digital solutions work in harmony to create a robust and transparent land management framework that benefits all Ugandans.”

“These efforts underscore our government’s unwavering dedication to creating a transparent, equitable, and citizen-centric land management system. We envision a Uganda where land is not only a source of pride but also a powerful tool for economic transformation and social equity.”

The minister called upon all stakeholders including farmers, investors, developers, and citizens to embrace these reforms and innovations.

“ Together, we can unlock the full potential of our land and property sectors, paving the way for a future of growth, prosperity, and shared success.”
