Africa-Press – Uganda. MTN Uganda has launched the “Friends of Mayo” initiative with a significant Shs 100 million contribution to support professional golfer Ronald Rugumayo ahead of a demanding 2025 season on the Sunshine Tour and international tournaments.
Ian Mugambe, Head of Devices at MTN Uganda, expressed pride in supporting Rugumayo, stating, “The MTN family is humbled to associate with professional golfer Ronald Rugumayo. He is a big inspiration to many young golfers. Rugumayo, a member of the Sunshine Tour, expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “I am humbled by this financial backing. I thank my management team and MTN Uganda. This offer will propel me as I prepare for tournaments on the Sunshine Tour and challenges in Europe.”
Rugumayo’s personal manager, Peter Mujuni, echoed this sentiment, praising MTN Uganda and Samsung for their timely support.
Mujuni added, “We are grateful to MTN Uganda and Samsung for this incredible gesture. We appeal to other corporates and individuals to join this noble cause and support Rugumayo’s journey.”
MTN Uganda has created a contribution code, 7198110, for individuals and organisations wishing to support Rugumayo’s career.
Additionally, Samsung, an MTN Uganda partner, gifted Rugumayo the latest Ultra S24 smartphone to aid his professional endeavours.
Rugumayo, a former artisan from Fort Portal, made history in 2023 as the first East African to make the cut at the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open.
A national team member for a decade, he won the prestigious Uganda Open in 2017 at Uganda Golf Club before turning professional in 2018. With a busy 2025 season ahead, Rugumayo remains focused on elevating his career and inspiring young golfers across the region.
