Museveni Acknowledges Missing Names in NRM Register

Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has acknowledged gaps in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) membership register following the party’s recently concluded village primaries, highlighting the need for immediate corrective measures.

Speaking at his polling station in Rwakitura, where he participated in the primaries, Museveni disclosed that an audit of the local register revealed that 61 names out of 351 listed members were either of individuals who had passed away or relocated, leaving 290 active members.

“When we arrived this morning at my polling station in Rwakitura, our registrar had a list of 351 members present, but after auditing, we found that 61 people have either passed away or migrated,” Museveni told party supporters. “This leaves us with 290 registered members.”

The president further noted that there are additional cases of eligible members who have not yet been included in the current register, citing his own grandchildren, children of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as examples of young adults over 18 who may wish to join but are not yet registered.

“We acknowledge that some people are not on the list, such as my grandchildren ,Muhoozi’s children who are over 18 and may wish to join the party. This will be addressed later,” he added.

Museveni stressed that while the day’s exercise was primarily focused on confirming the register, the issue of missing or outdated entries is a matter of priority for the party’s leadership going forward.

Rwakitura is not the only place that had issues with the register, in some places in Kampala voting could not take place because of issues surrounding the register

Speaking at a press conference laughing the Nrm baraza, the Nrm electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi noted they would be using the exercise “to audit the register”

“We want to use this opportunity to clear the register and make audit of the membership,” said Tanga Odoi.

While this exercise was mainly likely meant to focus on the strangers on on the register, there was little anticipation that many would be members would be missing on the voters register and the Nrm membership books

For now it’s not clear how the party will address the issue of those missing on the register as the party secretary general Richard Todwong has indicated they turn their attention to the parish Elections

“I also commend all Party members for conducting themselves peacefully and respectfully throughout the village elections. This spirit of unity and discipline is what strengthens our Party and our democracy. As we prepare for the upcoming Parish elections in the next few days, I encourage everyone to maintain the same level of enthusiasm, order, and integrity.” said Todwong via his X account.
