NRM LC1 Elections a Crucial Test of Party Strength, Says Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda

Africa-Press – Uganda. The outspoken man of the cloth, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, has described the NRM LC1 elections as a crucial test of the party’s capacity and strength on the ground across the country.

According to him, the elections provide an opportunity for the party to assess its grassroots support and prepare for future general elections.

The NRM LC1 elections have been a significant exercise for the party, with many stakeholders closely watching the process. In most parts of the country, there were challenges of chaos, controversy, and cases of irregularities.

In a one-on-one with NBS, Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda noted that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) LC1 elections were used as a way to test the strength of the party on the ground.

He further questioned how the NRM party would test its strength without allowing other political parties to participate in their internal lower elections.

“In my own view, I think the main objective for these LC1 elections is to test their strength in Uganda. Thereafter, if they notice that they don’t have strength on the ground, [they will consider] how they will go through the forthcoming elections,” Fr. Batanyenda noted.

Batanyenda further questioned the lining-up process during the elections, saying that it’s a party technique to identify those who strongly support the party. He added that the NRM was not ready for these lower local elections.

“I want to say that my NRM party has never been ready and prepared for any of the elections,” Batanyenda highlighted.

Fr. Batanyenda’s comments highlight the importance of the NRM LC1 elections in gauging the party’s popularity and organisational capacity. The outcome of these elections will likely have implications for the party’s future direction and strategies.

As the party continues to navigate the electoral process, the LC1 elections serve as a vital barometer of its strengths and weaknesses. By testing its capacity and support at the grassroots level, the NRM can refine its approach and build momentum for future elections.
