Africa-Press – Uganda. A record number of aspirants have expressed interest in contesting for Uganda’s presidency, signalling a highly competitive election season ahead of 2026.
The Electoral Commission announced on Friday, August 22, 2025, that 204 Ugandans have already picked up presidential nomination forms.
EC spokesperson Julius Muchunguzi said the high turnout of interested candidates demonstrates growing political enthusiasm across the country.
Those who have picked the forms are from all walks of life, from boda boda operators and chapatti makers to varsity students and comedians, all the way to the head of state himself.
Uganda will head to the polls in early 2026 to elect a president, Members of Parliament, and local leaders, with the electoral body urging all aspirants to follow guidelines as the process gathers momentum.
