Africa-Press – Uganda. Adventist Development and Relief Agency ADRA Uganda has launched Village Savings and Loans Federations (VSLFs) in Rwamwanja and Kyaka refugee settlements in Kamwenge district as part of its Resilience Enhancement for Adapting to Sustainable Livelihoods (REAL) project.
The REAL project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark, Novo Nordisk, FAHU Foundation, and ADRA International, aims to increase food security and resilience among 8,400 individuals, including 5,880 refugees and 2,520 host community members, in the two settlements by 2026.
According to Jerry Kiwanuka, Project Manager, the launch of seven VSLFs – four in Rwamwanja and three in Kyaka – marks a significant milestone in the project’s implementation.
“We are here to officially launch these VSLFs, which will bring together participating Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) to save together and grow together,” he said.
The VSLFs will provide a platform for members to pool their resources, access loans, and invest in income-generating activities, thereby enhancing their resilience to shocks and improving their overall well-being.
The REAL project is a two-year initiative that seeks to address the vulnerabilities of refugees and host communities in Kyaka and Rwamwanja settlements. By promoting sustainable livelihoods and enhancing resilience, the project aims to contribute to the long-term development of these communities.
ADRA Uganda remains committed to supporting vulnerable populations in Uganda and promoting sustainable development in line with its mission and values.
