Airtel Uganda Launches 365 5G Sites for Holidays

Africa-Press – Uganda. Airtel Uganda has announced that 365 5G sites are now live across key towns including Kampala–Wakiso, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Gulu, Lira, Hoima, Fort Portal and Kabale.

The development means the telecom giants are extending the next generation of high-speed connectivity to communities and enterprises across the country.

This comes ahead of the festive season that involves a shift in data traffic as Ugandans go back home to celebrate Christmas.

According to officials, this development follows Airtel’s continued investment in network densification to improve customer experience.

Soumendra Sahu, the CEO and Managing Director said the company has been steadily ramping up deployments, adding dozens of new 5G sites in recent months and broadening coverage from central Kampala into major regional centres.

He noted that the initial rollout focused on urban hubs but that current efforts are prioritizing extending accessibility beyond the capital to other top cities.

According to Sahu, network expansion both 4G and 5G is an investment to support the growing need to increase use-cases and adoption of ICTs in the country’s digital transformation agenda.

“5G greatest applications include home broadband, digital learning, telemedicine, anufacturing, commercial agriculture remote working, smart business solutions, faster content delivery, and improved customer experience as the real justification for continued investment in next-generation networks among many other applications that require super-fast connections,” Sahu said.

He also added that Airtel’s strategic approach to rolling out new sites is acting “ahead of need” and responding to customer feedback to ensure network enhancements deliver tangible improvements for everyday users especially their video experiences.

“We view 5G as an enabler rather than a headline technology. This is progressive rather than a finish line reinforcing a longer-term commitment to strengthening network quality, supporting the digital economy, and ensuring that high-capacity connectivity is available where people live, work, and do business” Sahu noted.

Airtel Uganda launched 5G two years ago with 50 sites in Kampala and the rollout of the 5G sites will go a long way in boosting connection across the country.

With these 5G sites, it means fast speeds, and huge capacity enabling seamless streaming and real-time applications but also power Internet of Things by connecting countless devices and enhanced reliability as well as security for businesses and consumers.
