Africa-Press – Uganda. The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has commenced its highly anticipated National Conference in Kampala, drawing delegates from across the country to deliberate on the party’s preparations for the 2026 general elections.
Held over two days, the conference is intended to generate consensus on key policy positions, refine the party’s manifesto, and strengthen internal structures for effective nationwide mobilization.
Speaking at the opening session, party president and founder Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu described the conference as a pivotal moment in ANT’s journey toward offering Ugandans a credible alternative leadership.
“This National Conference allows us to consolidate ideas, harness experience from our structures, and align our vision for 2026,” said Muntu, emphasizing the role of collective input in shaping the party’s strategic direction.
Senior party leaders in attendance included former Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza, National Campaigns and Elections Coordinator Alice Alaso, and representatives from the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
The ANT-PFF alliance was recently cemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signaling growing momentum for coordinated opposition efforts.
“When like-minded entities come together, each brings their best to the table,” Muntu said. “Unity of purpose is crucial if we are to dismantle the entrenched system.”
Winnie Kiiza called on Ugandans yearning for political change to actively engage in shaping the country’s future.
“By the end of this conference, ANT will be well-positioned to participate effectively in the 2026 general elections. We encourage all citizens yearning for change to step forward and take part in this journey,” she noted.
Delegates — including elders, aspiring candidates, and local party leaders — welcomed the conference as a critical platform for reflection, strategy, and mobilisation.
While much of the conference remains behind closed doors, several sessions are open to media and invited stakeholders, giving the public a glimpse into the party’s evolving agenda and broader aspirations for Uganda’s political future.
