Apa Hollard Launches Shs36Bn Insurance Cover

Africa-Press – Uganda. APA Insurance Uganda, in collaboration with Hollard Health, has unveiled a groundbreaking international health insurance product — APA International Health — designed to transform how individuals and organizations manage healthcare.

This digitally-driven solution combines advanced technology with a personalised wellness approach, enabling users to proactively manage their health and make informed choices with ease and confidence.

The new product, launched under the APA-Hollard partnership, leverages the HealthMov app — a wellness platform that empowers users to monitor and improve their health through features like facial and movement scans that track vital signs including heart rate, BMI, stress, and breathing. In addition to real-time health monitoring, the app offers personalised feedback, lifestyle coaching, rewards for healthy behaviour, goal tracking, and access to telemedicine and second medical opinions.

Speaking during the launch, Ashok Shah, Group CEO of Apollo Investments Limited, noted:

“The primary aim is to encourage healthier living among members, which in turn reduces healthcare costs and improves overall health outcomes. With APA and Hollard Health’s combined expertise, we are setting a new standard for healthcare coverage in the region.”

The product comes at a time when Uganda’s youthful population — 78% of whom are under the age of 35 — is increasingly seeking accessible, tech-enabled healthcare solutions. It also responds to shifting health trends in the region, particularly the rise of non-communicable diseases linked to lifestyle choices.

APA International Health offers five comprehensive plans with coverage options across Africa, India, Europe, and worldwide, depending on the selected tier.

With generous benefit limits of up to shs36 billion, the product is tailored to meet the needs of individuals, families, SMEs, and corporates. Its modular design allows members to customise their coverage by selecting benefits that best suit their lifestyle and health goals.

“Because we know that Africa’s demands are unique, we are committed to helping the continent thrive by offering the right, cost-effective health insurance for its diverse needs,” said Tobe Hope, CEO of Hollard Health.

“Our mission is to make quality healthcare accessible to all, and to empower people to take charge of their well-being.”

The product is distributed through agents and brokers, and supported by Henner, a globally recognised Third-Party Administrator (TPA) known for its reliability and customer satisfaction.

Manan Desai, CEO of APA Insurance Uganda, described the HealthMov app as “a virtual doctor, personal trainer, and mentor in every member’s pocket — making proactive health management simpler and more rewarding.”

The launch follows a strategic partnership formed in November 2023 between Apollo Investments Limited — APA Insurance’s parent company — and Hollard International. The partnership is aimed at expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare solutions across Africa.

APA International Health is positioned as a game-changer in the East African healthcare space, offering not just insurance but an integrated wellness experience that promises improved health outcomes, reduced medical costs, and a healthier, more empowered population.
