Africa-Press – Uganda. Mpuuga has drawn attention to the striking similarities between the circumstances leading to Luwum’s assassination and the current human rights abuses committed by the regime’s operatives.

“The events that led to Archbishop Luwum’s murder are not unlike what we have been witnessing recently – the relentless human rights violations by the regime’s operatives, which have been extensively documented and highlighted,” he stated.

Various sources have extensively documented and highlighted these violations.

“Commemorating Janani Luwum Day would serve a purpose if the regime is mindful of its duty to its citizens and respects the sanctity of human dignity and life,” he added.

Mpuuga lamented that state actors persist in subjecting Ugandans to abductions, arbitrary detentions, and extrajudicial killings.

In his statement, Mpuuga emphasized the urgency of ending the mockery faced by Ugandans.

He called on the government to find alternative and acceptable methods of addressing the nation’s political concerns instead of resorting to outdated and unacceptable practices.

Mpuuga’s plea resonates with those who prioritise upholding human rights and ensuring justice for all citizens.

As Uganda observes Archbishop Janani Luwum Day, Mpuuga urges the government to reflect on its actions and take immediate steps to halt the ongoing human rights abuses.
