Africa-Press – Uganda. The vote tallying process for the Arua City mayoral race has been suspended following disputes between the camps of incumbent Sam Wadri Nyakua and challenger Lawrence Dangote over alleged manipulation of results.
The disagreement arose after the release of preliminary results, with both sides accusing each other of tampering to favor the incumbent.
Police spokesperson for West Nile, Collins Asea, confirmed the suspension, citing irregularities discovered in the tallying process.
“This action was taken after discovering irregularities involving the alteration of results by the respective registrars: Cosmos Atibo for Yivu 1 and Ecoku for Etoli Ward, both within Ayivu West,” Asea stated.
All election materials from these wards have been confiscated by police and are currently held at the Arua Central Police Station as authorities conduct a thorough review before determining next steps.
Meanwhile, the Pajulu Sub-county registrar, Luigi, along with one of his village registrars, are recording statements at the police station in connection with allegations of result manipulation.
NRM Assistant City Registrar Eriku Billy remains at large following police orders for his arrest.
The developments have cast uncertainty over the final outcome of the mayoral race, heightening tensions in Arua City as the electoral process faces a critical juncture.
