Africa-Press – Uganda. Businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba has gone through unopposed as Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League for the 2025–2031 term.
The endorsement followed a dialogue initiated by President Museveni, the NRM national chairman, and facilitated by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa.
The meeting, held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at State Lodge Nakasero, brought together all contenders for the position.
According to a communiqué released after the meeting, the aspirants Sanjay Tanna, Mr. Philip Kakuru , and King Ceasor Mulenga agreed to step down in favor of Basajjabalaba “in the spirit of party unity and cohesion,” as emphasized by the party chairman.
The statement confirmed that Basajjabalaba will now serve as chairperson of the Entrepreneurs League until 2031.
President Museveni welcomed the decision, saying the aspirants had demonstrated unity and foresight by endorsing Basajjabalaba.
“I would like to thank Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for bringing these factions together and thank all the aspirants for their foresight,” Museveni said.
“As I often say, it is not just about who is in the position, but what can be achieved. I congratulate Al Hajj Basajjabalaba and commend the other candidates for their selfless act.”
Basajjabalaba, a businessman and former chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association, will now lead the NRM Entrepreneurs League without contest.
The Entrepreneurs League is one of the NRM’s specialized structures tasked with mobilizing the business community to participate in party activities and support national development initiatives.
