Africa-Press – Uganda. The Bishop of the Diocese of West Buganda, Rt. Rev. Guster Nsereko, has expressed deep concern over the state of leadership and integrity in Uganda, calling for nationwide prayer and reflection during the Easter season.
Delivering his first Easter message as bishop during a press briefing held at the diocesan headquarters in Kako, Masaka, Bishop Nsereko urged Ugandans to seek divine intervention for wisdom and moral revival, especially among the country’s leaders.
The bishop condemned what he described as moral decay within the leadership, likening the actions of some public officials to those during the era of Pontius Pilate, who dismissed justice in favor of selfish interests.
“When you observe how officials scramble for every bit of money that comes their way, you can’t help but believe they have strayed from their true purpose,” said Bishop Nsereko.
His remarks come amidst growing public outrage over the alleged allocation of 100 million shillings to each Member of Parliament, with no clear explanation or accountability.
“It is shocking how one individual can choose to pocket funds intended to help many, showing no remorse or concern for the welfare of others,” he added.
In addition to addressing corruption, Bishop Nsereko also condemned the recent mistreatment of journalists by security forces, following reports of media personnel being assaulted and their equipment damaged while covering stories.
“Journalists are not a threat to anyone; they are simply doing their job. Attacking them and destroying their tools of work is not only illegal but morally wrong,” he stated.
Bishop Nsereko concluded his address with a passionate appeal to Christians across the country to use this Easter season as a time for prayer and repentance. He called on leaders in every sector to reflect on their responsibilities and lead with compassion, justice, and integrity.
