Africa-Press – Uganda. Corporate companies, nonprofit organizations, and government institution boards have been urged to embrace youth inclusion in leadership roles, tapping into a pool of competent, ethical, and forward-thinking future leaders.
The call was made by Stella Marion Athieno, Secretary General of the Public Relations Association of Uganda, during an event in Kampala.
Athieno emphasized that while boardrooms have traditionally been associated with experienced leaders in suits, building a sustainable future requires young people to be included not as observers but as contributors, learners, and future decision-makers.
“Leadership is not born overnight but cultivated through exposure, guidance, and the willingness to learn. Young people, guided by seasoned professionals, gain real-time mentorship while contributing to discussions that shape the future, evolving into capable leaders who understand governance from both theoretical and practical perspectives,” Athieno said.
She noted that youth bring fresh perspectives, digital fluency, and insight into emerging trends that can rejuvenate even the most traditional institutions.
“They question the status quo, challenge outdated systems, and inspire more inclusive and innovative thinking,” Athieno added.
Reflecting on her own generation, Athieno expressed pride in their determination and creativity.
“I am proud of my generation because we are driven by grit, excellence, and hard work, navigating complex worlds with creativity and courage, showing up with ideas, energy, and determination to do better,” she said.
