Bobi Wine Condemns Police Raid on his Lira Hotel Residence

Africa-Press – Uganda. National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has accused security forces of staging a night raid on his residence at a hotel in Lira City, calling the incident a “barbaric act” aimed at instilling fear ahead of the upcoming campaign activities.

Kyagulanyi, who briefed journalists before heading to Kotido and Abim districts on Wednesday, said security operatives stormed his team’s accommodation, arresting 15 members of his campaign team.

“Seven of the fifteen comrades arrested last night have been released as of this morning,” he said.

Kyagulanyi said he has been informed that one of his campaign members, identified as Tower, is a target of security forces.

He added that he questioned the police over the operation and was informed that officers were searching for equipment allegedly stolen from them.

“They allege that our comrade Tower stole a laptop and a network jammer from them,” Kyagulanyi said. “We are yet to establish if this is true but as far as we know, we are law-abiding citizens.”

The NUP candidate also raised concern over the handling of another team member, Dan Magic, alleging that his statement has not been recorded at any police station he has been taken to.

Kyagulanyi accused authorities of engaging in intimidation tactics, claiming similar actions have been used against opposition politicians in past election cycles.
