Africa-Press – Uganda. The arrival of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, at the 32nd coronation anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at Kibuli Grand Mosque sparked excitement among attendees, especially students and youth groups.
Kyagulanyi received a warm welcome at the royal celebration held at the Kibuli mosque, where thousands gathered to mark the Kabaka’s 32nd coronation since his enthronement in 1993.
Cheers erupted from the crowd, particularly from clusters of students in school uniform and those standing outside in the yard awaiting guests.
Many rushed to capture moments on their mobile phones as he made his way to the VIP tent. Supporters chanted every time his image appeared on screens set up for those farther from the main stage.
Though Kyagulanyi did not address the gathering, his presence underscored the influence he holds among Uganda’s youth and his continued engagement in both cultural and political spheres.
The coronation is a significant event in the Buganda Kingdom calendar, drawing leaders from across the political spectrum, religious groups, and the general public to honor the Kabaka’s cultural leadership.
Kyagulanyi’s attendance comes amid growing youth involvement in civic affairs, with many seeing him as a strong political figure who inspires hope and courage among young people to engage in politics.
Other notable attendees included political leaders, Mengo officials led by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the Royal Family, and Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, among others.
