Buganda Kingdom Urges Peace, Fair Elections

Africa-Press – Uganda. Representatives from eight different sub-counties across the Buganda Kingdom—including those from the counties of Ssingo, Kyaggwe, Butambala, and Bugerere—together with cultural event coordinators and traditional musicians, have paid homage at the Kingdom headquarters and presented a collective contribution exceeding Shs 20 million.

Speaking on behalf of Katikkiro Charles Perer Mayiga, the Kingdom’s Attorney General, Christopher Bwanika, accepted the contribution and delivered a message emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and fairness during the ongoing national election period.

Bwanika urged the national electoral commission to uphold visible fairness for all citizens. He noted that the absence of fairness breeds voter distrust and instability, calling on Ugandans to unite in demanding transparent processes for peaceful elections.

“We must never surrender our constitutional right to political expression. It is our duty to defend it at all times,” Bwanika said.

Bwanika further encouraged traditional ceremony leaders to intensify efforts in promoting the Luganda language by studying authentic literature to accurately preserve and spread Buganda’s culture and values.

Additionally, he encouraged the public to rely on official Buganda Kingdom communication channels to avoid misinformation, stressing that truth becomes more effective when widely and correctly shared.

The Buganda Minister for Local Government, Joseph Kawuki, called on all subjects of the Kabaka to stay alert during this politically sensitive period and to evaluate public discourse carefully—particularly statements made by politicians. He cautioned against individuals who exploit political moments to attack and undermine the Kingdom for selfish gain.

Representing the Katambala County, Vice Deputy Leader, Kabali Vincent Masembe highlighted ongoing development initiatives championed by the Kingdom to fight poverty, especially through enhanced agriculture, noting the success of coffee programs.

“Buganda’s people must not relent in the fight against poverty. The Kingdom continues to promote effective initiatives to uplift households,” Masembe said.

Ntenjeru South Member of Parliament and one of the Kingdom’s envoys, Patrick Nsanja, expressed deep concern over rising deaths in the Bugerere region. He called upon the Kingdom to intensify pressure on government authorities to investigate and address the cause of mysterious illnesses affecting residents.
