Africa-Press – Uganda. Buweekula Ssaza football team has reignited hopes among fans after booking a spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Masaza Cup, following a 1–1 draw with Busujju in a high-stakes return leg played today at the NTC Playground in Mubende.
Striker Shafic Ssonko put the home side ahead in the first half before Lauben Lunwama levelled for Busujju in the second half. The aggregate result was enough to send Buwekula through to the semi-finals — a major achievement after last season’s quarter-final disappointment.
Buwekula’s Assistant Coach Devis Ssozi Nono expressed gratitude for the team’s progress, recalling the heartbreak of last season.
“We thank God for this achievement. Last year we stopped at the quarter-finals, but maybe God has given us a second chance to correct our mistakes,” said Nono.
However, he admitted the team’s brief complacency after Busujju was reduced to ten men may have cost them a clean win.
“Our players relaxed a bit, but they’ve learned their lesson. I believe we’re going to keep winning,” he added.
Buweekula will now face Kyaggwe Ssaza in a highly anticipated semi-final first leg at home on Sunday, October 12, also at NTC Playground.
The fixture brings back tough memories for Buweekula supporters — Kyaggwe knocked them out at the quarter-final stage last year.
“We all remember what Kyaggwe did to us. This time round, Buweekula is winning the 2025 Masaza Cup,” Nono declared with confidence.
Team Manager Hajji Rajab Ssebulime urged fans to show up in large numbers and continue supporting the team’s Masaza Cup campaign.
“I call upon everyone to come on Sunday and support Buweekula. I know we shall defeat Kyaggwe,” he said.
Captain Calvin Palio Ogubezo, who was named Man of the Match, said the team is motivated and believes they are on the path to making history.
“We’ve reached the semi-finals, and I believe we’re going all the way. We’re determined and ready to defeat every team,” Palio said.
Buweekula Ssaza Chief Andrew Mukasa Ssempijja applauded the technical staff and management for their commitment.
“I want to thank our team manager, coaches, players, and supporters. We’re now focused on the semi-finals, and I believe this year is ours,” he said.
Among the jubilant supporters was Shaminah Nagadya, who issued a passionate message ahead of the clash.
“Kyaggwe left us in pain last year, but this time it’s revenge. Buweekula is well-prepared to defeat them,” she said.
The semi-final against Kyaggwe is expected to draw huge crowds as Buweekula chases its first Masaza Cup title in years. With momentum and community spirit on their side, the team believes the trophy is within reach.
