Africa-Press – Uganda. The Ministry of Works and Transport has confirmed the full reopening of the collapsed section at Buyala along the Kampala–Mityana highway, following urgent repairs that restored the critical transport link.
The announcement came shortly after State Minister for Works, Hon. Musa Ecweru, inspected the site.
The road section had caved in recently due to persistent heavy rains and underlying structural faults, disrupting movement along the busy route connecting Kampala to western Uganda.
“Our technical teams, in collaboration with the contractor, are working round-the-clock to restore this critical route and ensure that connectivity is not compromised,” Ecweru said during the visit.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining infrastructure resilience, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate-related damage.
The Buyala stretch serves as a key artery for both passenger and commercial traffic, linking Kampala with Mityana, Mubende, and Fort Portal.
Its sudden closure had led to long delays and increased transport costs for traders and travellers.
Minister Ecweru’s visit was part of a broader field tour of western-bound highways.
He also inspected the Mityana–Mubende Road and the Mubende–Fort Portal–Bundibugyo Road to evaluate their condition and inform ongoing maintenance plans.
The Ministry assured motorists that normal traffic flow would resume fully by the end of Saturday, with additional works set to continue in the coming weeks to reinforce vulnerable sections and prevent future breakdowns.
