Africa-Press – Uganda. The Fourth Canada NRM Chapter Symposium, originally set for September 26–28 in Toronto has been pushed back by a month to October 2025 due to ongoing candidate nomination activities within the Electoral Commission.

The announcement was made in a letter from Rukia Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister, Minister Without Portfolio, and chairperson of the organising committee.

Nakadama explained that the change was necessary to accommodate the nomination process for both local and national candidates ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“Owing to the activities going on in the NRM party, including nominations of candidates at both local and national levels by the Electoral Commission, the symposium has been postponed to October 2025, and the exact date will be communicated,” she stated.

She further urged delegates and participants to prepare to “turn up in big numbers to celebrate the achievements registered by the NRM party” when the event is held.

Abbey Walusimbi, senior diaspora affairs advisor to President Museveni, together with Canada NRM Chapter Chairperson Fred Kinene, underscored the symposium’s significance for mobilizing Ugandans in the diaspora.

They emphasized its continued role in supporting President Museveni’s leadership and the party’s broader vision for national development.

Past symposiums have provided a platform for fostering unity, patriotism, and diaspora engagement in Uganda’s political and developmental agenda.

Organisers say the upcoming rescheduled event, under the theme “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness,” will retain its original theme and focus on celebrating the NRM’s achievements while rallying support ahead of the 2026 polls.

They expressed optimism about strong participation and reiterated that the symposium will remain a critical avenue for the diaspora to contribute to shaping Uganda’s political landscape.
