Africa-Press – Uganda. Leaders of the Baptist Community in Central Africa (CBCA), paid a courtesy visit to the Buganda Kingdom headquarters at Bulange, Mengo on Tuesday to formally brief the Kingdom on the church’s activities and to seek guidance on various matters aimed at strengthening their service to communities.
During the visit, the church delegation held discussions with the Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, at Bulange, Mengo.
The delegation shared details of their pastoral, social, and development work and expressed their desire to receive counsel from the Kingdom, under whose cultural jurisdiction many of the people they serve fall.
In his remarks, CBCA President and Legal Representative, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Kavusa Kivatsi highlighted that the church operates in eight countries and has been active in Uganda since 2016, with its headquarters based in Katwe. He noted that since their establishment in Uganda, the church has been dedicated to serving God’s people through spiritual ministry and social outreach.
Kavusa emphasised the church’s strong interest in forging a sustainable partnership with the Buganda Kingdom, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.
He explained that the church plans to invest in building schools and health facilities, noting that these priorities align closely with the Kingdom’s long-standing development agenda.
He further revealed that the church has devoted significant effort to prayer, especially concerning the tense and often polarised political climate surrounding elections. The church, he said, continues to pray for peace, stability, and unity so that the nation remains calm and secure.
Kavusa also appealed to the Buganda Kingdom for guidance on land-related matters, explaining that the church intends to expand its development projects, particularly within Buganda. He observed that although the church serves people from diverse nationalities, a large proportion of its congregants reside within Buganda.
In his response, the Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, commended the Baptist Church in Central Africa for its commitment to evangelism and its practical initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting holistic well-being.
Mugumbule encouraged the church leadership to work closely with Buganda Kingdom institutions and agencies, stressing that these bodies were established by the Kabaka to serve the people effectively.
He specifically advised the church to engage Buganda Land Board when seeking land for development projects.
“If you wish to acquire land, I urge you to work with Buganda Land Board. They will guide and expedite all land-related processes through the proper and lawful channels,” he said.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared commitment to collaboration in advancing spiritual growth, social development, and the welfare of communities within Buganda and beyond.
