Africa-Press – Uganda. CHRISTMAS PRAYERS
The Senior Pastor of Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga, Robert Kayanja has called on government especially the Electoral Commission (EC) not to heed to Uganda Joint Christian Council’s (UJCC) proposal to extend the forthcoming presidential elections for three years.
UJCC led by the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga want the Constitution to be amended to allow President Museveni to continue ruling during the period of postponement.
Kayanja said the move would set a very bad precedent in the country’s rich history.
“When a country starts doing things that way, then it has lost its mind. We cannot change the Constitution neither postpone elections,” Kayanja said.
He warned that if such a proposal is granted, next time there might come a terrible dictator who will also use malaria or poverty to postpone the elections for selfish interests.
He made the remarks while leading Christmas mass.
