Africa-Press – Uganda. The Church of Uganda has raised concern over the recently passed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Amendment Act 2025, urging political leaders to reflect deeply on the laws they endorse.
The Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, Rt. Rev. Fredrick Jackson Baalwa, cautioned that some decisions made in Parliament may have lasting consequences, including on the very leaders who pass them.
“Leaders must be conscious and forward-thinking. Some of the laws passed today may come back to affect them personally in the future,” Bishop Baalwa stated.
The bishop emphasised the need for integrity and national interest to take precedence over political loyalty or short-term gains when handling critical legislation.
Parliament recently approved amendments to the UPDF law, stirring public debate and drawing concern from various stakeholders, including religious leaders who are calling for a more inclusive and reflective legislative process.
