Africa-Press – Uganda. The Court of Appeal in Kampala has commenced a two-panel, three-day session from February 17 to 19, 2026, to hear 76 civil appeals and 10 related applications, aimed at accelerating case disposal and enhancing access to justice.
The hearings are being presided over by Justices Christopher Gashirabake, Oscar Kihika, Moses Kazibwe Kawumi, Cornelia Kakooza Sabiiti, Stella Alibateese, and Justice Musa Ssekaana, who is participating virtually.
Deputy Registrar HW Natukunda Janeva said the appeals cover a wide range of civil matters, including land and trespass disputes, mortgage claims, recovery of money, breach of contract cases, judicial review applications, letters of administration, and claims for damages.
“The dedicated sittings underscore the Court’s deliberate strategy to accelerate the hearing of appeals, reduce case backlog, and ensure that litigants receive timely and effective justice,” the Court said in a statement.
Appellants and their legal representatives are attending the sessions as scheduled. The initiative forms part of the Judiciary’s broader efforts to decentralize appellate services, ease the workload of Kampala-based courts, and bring justice closer to communities across the country.
