Africa-Press – Uganda. The Cuban National Assembly on November 21 hosted a Ugandan parliamentary delegation for bilateral discussions aimed at expanding cooperation and reinforcing historic ties between the two countries.
The meeting brought together Alberto Núñez, President of the International Relations Committee of the Cuban National Assembly, and Ulman Carmona, Head of Africa and Arab Affairs at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Fred Opolot, Vice Chairperson of Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Hon. Opolot was joined by Uganda’s Ambassador to Cuba, Elizabeth Sylvia Musaazi, Amb Elly Kamahungye, head of International Political Cooperation, and officials from the Ugandan Embassy in Havana.
During what both sides described as cordial engagements, the delegations exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and expanding collaboration in education, health, and technical exchange.
They also explored new areas of partnership aligned with the development priorities of both nations.
Mr Núñez welcomed the Ugandan delegation and reiterated Cuba’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with African partners.
He highlighted the long-standing solidarity between Uganda and Cuba and said continued dialogue at parliamentary level remains essential to advancing bilateral relations.
Hon. Opolot thanked the Cuban government for its consistent support and said Uganda is keen on widening cooperation in sectors that directly improve citizens’ wellbeing.
He noted that structured parliamentary exchanges will be central to deepening ties between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular consultations and pursue concrete initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting sustainable development for the peoples of Cuba and Uganda.
