Africa-Press – Uganda. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Lino Anguzu, has warned newly recruited state attorneys against indiscipline, urging them to uphold professionalism, integrity, and dedication in the execution of their duties.
Anguzu made the remarks on Monday while officiating at the opening of a week-long induction training for 38 newly recruited state attorneys held at Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara.
He expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of misconduct within the prosecution service, warning that such behaviour threatens the credibility and effectiveness of the justice system.
“I have noted with concern the increasing cases of indiscipline among some officers, including absenteeism, lack of commitment, and the solicitation of money from members of the public for services that are meant to be offered free of charge,” Anguzu said.
He stressed that state attorneys occupy a central position in the justice system and must reflect the values of integrity and professionalism in both conduct and service delivery.
“You are the face of the justice system. Your conduct must reflect professionalism, integrity, and dedication at all times. The public must have confidence in the services you offer,” he added.
Anguzu further warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct would face disciplinary action, noting that accountability remains a key pillar in strengthening the prosecution service.
The induction programme, which brings together 38 newly recruited state attorneys, is intended to equip them with practical skills, legal knowledge, and ethical grounding required in prosecution work.
Officials said the training will also focus on strengthening ethical standards and improving service delivery within the prosecution system, as efforts continue to restore public trust in justice institutions.
“This training is meant to prepare you not only to prosecute cases, but to do so with honesty, fairness, and respect for the law,” Anguzu noted.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says it continues to prioritize discipline and professionalism as part of broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency and credibility within the justice sector.
