Africa-Press – Uganda. Duncan Abigaba, a former government official with experience in the Office of the President, State House, and Ministry of Information, has officially declared his candidacy for the leadership of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Western Uganda, vowing to drive what he calls a “Creative Disruption” within the ruling party.
Abigaba, 36, announced his campaign in a statement, pledging to reform, rebrand, and reshape the NRM to better serve the needs of ordinary Ugandans.
He emphasised the importance of realigning party policies to focus on practical education, accessible healthcare, youth entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies.
“For 40 years, NRM has restored peace and grown our economy twenty-fold. However, there’s apathy the party serves a few, structures are dysfunctional, we’ve no recruitment plan, and no jobs for youth,” Abigaba said. “It’s time for Creative Disruption.”
An alumnus of Makerere University, Uganda Management Institute, and the Higher School of Economics in Russia, Abigaba is positioning himself as a pro-youth, tech-savvy leader advocating for generational renewal within the NRM.
His campaign slogan, “#Abigaba4CEC,” signals his intention to seek a seat on the party’s Central Executive Committee, the NRM’s top decision-making organ.
The NRM, which has governed Uganda since 1986 under President Museveni, faces growing internal and public calls for reform amid concerns about youth unemployment and declining public trust in party structures.
