SOROTI – “As we prepare for the general election, we should elect leaders who respect God, leaders who love peace and unity,” prayed the Anglican bishop of Soroti Diocese Kosea Odongo.While leading Christmas prayers at St-Peter’s Cathedral, Bp. Odongo, emphasised the need for the aspiring leaders to restrain their supporters from violence saying violence destroys the nation.He also urged the security operatives especially the police to offer protection to everybody without segregation.
“During this time, I call upon the police to be able to offer security for all people because we are all created in the image of God and God sent his son to come and save all of us,” prayed Bp. Odongo.”May we celebrate Christmas and brothers and sisters and accept to share Uganda as our county that God has given us and nobody should have the monopoly of this country,” Bp. Odongo said.On coronavirus pandemic that has left scores of people dead, Bp. Odongo encouraged Christians to wear masks, wash hands, and avoid crowded places.
Christians who came to pray without masks were turned away by the police that the church had invited to help in implementing the standard operating procedures (SOPS).Christians expressed gratitude to God for the protection and prayed that God enables medical workers to get the medicine for coronavirus.”I am blessed to be part of the congregation this Christmas that many have not managed to make it to. I have lost friends to coronavirus and yet God has continued to protect me, I give praise and honor to God for its goodness,” Janet Agwalo of Pamba Soroti said.
