Africa-Press – Uganda. Organisers of the 5th Annual Uganda Muslim Run have announced that this year’s charity run will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Cricket Oval Lugogo.

The event is aimed at raising awareness and mobilising funds to roof the first block of the Shukran Babies’ Home in Luweero District, which is being established as a safe haven for abandoned and vulnerable children.

Addressing journalists in Kampala on Tuesday, the founder of the initiative, Muslim Kiwanuka, said the run continues to be an important platform for uniting communities around compassion and social responsibility.

“Our goal this year is to raise enough funds to roof the first block of the Shukran Babies’ Home,” Kiwanuka said.

“This home will provide safety, care and dignity for children who have nowhere else to turn

The 2025 edition will feature both 10km and 5km races, giving participants of varying fitness levels the opportunity to contribute.

Organisers also confirmed that a dedicated children’s play area will be set up for young ones who cannot take part in the run itself, ensuring that the event remains inclusive and family-friendly.

Corporate partners have also rallied behind the cause.

Mariam Najjingo, Marketing Executive at Salaam Bank Limited, expressed the bank’s support for the initiative.

“This charity run reflects the values that guide Salaam Bank ; empathy, compassion, and community service. We are proud to stand with this noble cause that gives hope to abandoned children.”

Representatives from academia also echoed the importance of charity-driven initiatives in community development.

Hamid Byamugenzi, Liaison Officer at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), stressed that collective giving transforms society.

“Charity changes communities. By joining hands in such efforts, we create lasting impact that goes beyond immediate needs,” Byamugenzi said.

In addition to the Rotary Cancer Run, the Uganda Muslim Run has grown into one of the country’s most impactful faith-based charity sports events, bringing together individuals, families, businesses and institutions in a spirit of solidarity.

This year’s organisers are calling on Ugandans of all backgrounds to register, participate, and support the effort to give abandoned children in Luweero District a safe and nurturing home.
