Africa-Press – Uganda. The First Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, professor Hajji Twaha Kawaase Kigongo, has called upon the Kabaka’s subjects to prioritise electing political leaders who champion the interests and development agenda of Buganda.
He emphasised the importance of unity and collective responsibility in advancing the Kingdom’s progress, cautioning against the divisive nature of partisan politics.
Hajji Kawaase made the remarks during a ceremonial event held at Bulange, Mengo, where he officially received contributions totalling over shs10 million from the people of Bugerere County.
The donations were made under the ongoing “Luwalo Lwaffe” (Our Contribution) campaign, a Kingdom-wide initiative aimed at mobilising support for Buganda’s development programs.
The delegation from Bugerere, led by the Kabaka’s County Chief (Mugerere), Samuel Semugoma, included representatives from several sub-counties—Kangulumira, Ssaabawaali Galilaya, Mutuba I Kitimbwa, and Mutuba III Busaana. They presented their financial contributions as a gesture of allegiance to the Kabaka and in support of the Kingdom’s socio-economic initiatives.
In his address, Hajji Kawaase applauded the residents of Bugerere for their commitment and generosity, noting that such contributions are vital to the Kingdom’s self-reliance and resilience.
He acknowledged the challenges facing the region including persistent illnesses, corruption, and inefficiencies in public administration and urged for greater vigilance and accountability at all levels of leadership.
“The strength of Buganda lies in our unity and our ability to support one another,” Hajji Kawaase stated. “Politics is temporary and often leaves people divided and in need. Let us not be swayed by short-term promises but instead invest our votes in leaders who understand and support the Kingdom’s vision.”
He further called on all Buganda subjects to actively engage in Kingdom programs like Luwalo Lwaffe, which are designed to restore the cultural, economic, and political vitality of Buganda.
He also encouraged local leaders, particularly county chiefs like Mugerere Semugoma, to strengthen grassroots leadership structures and embrace modern tools and technology to enhance service delivery.
The funds raised through this campaign will be channeled into various development projects within the Kingdom, reinforcing Buganda’s longstanding emphasis on community-driven progress and loyalty to the Kabaka.
The event concluded with cultural expressions of unity and dedication to the Kingdom, underscoring the enduring connection between the Kabaka and his people across all counties of Buganda.
