Former Nup'S Kagabo Picks NRM Nomination Forms for Bukoto South

Africa-Press – Uganda. Bukoto South Member of Parliament Twaha Kagabo has officially declared his intention to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Kagabo, who was elected to Parliament in 2021 on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, picked up the nomination forms on Wednesday from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kyadondo.

He now seeks to retain his seat under the ruling party’s ticket.

“I have picked expression of interest forms to be nominated in the NRM primaries to carry the party flag and represent the great people of Bukoto South in the 12th Parliament,”

“I have made remarkable achievements in the 11th Parliament and many more await in my 2nd term,” Kagabo posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Kagabo is among several legislators who were recently given a 30-day ultimatum by NUP to apologize for shunning party activities or risk losing their party cards ahead of the upcoming elections.

The group also includes former Leader of the Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, Abed Bwanika, Joyce Bagala, and Jimmy Lwanga.

Kagabo’s decision to pick NRM forms is consistent with his earlier declaration to part ways with NUP.

“To the NUP members, I, Twaha Kagabo, MP for Bukoto South, am not returning to NUP. I am handing back your party card,” he said in an interview with Sanyuka Television.

In 2021, Kagabo won the Bukoto South seat with 8,883 votes, defeating NRM’s Abdul Kiyimba, who polled 6,684.

However, his tenure has been marred by controversy, often clashing with the NUP leadership and aligning himself with activities organised by the ruling party.

His latest move solidifies a long-speculated political shift, as he positions himself to continue his legislative career under the NRM.
