Fresh Election Confirms NRM Flag Winners Namuganza Loses

Africa-Press – Uganda. Bukono Constituency, Namutumba District – A tribunal-ordered fresh election in Bukono Constituency has confirmed Emmanuel Maganda Katoko as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearer, marking another loss for incumbent Persis Namuganza.

The tribunal had directed voting in 30 villages in Kibale Town Council and 46 villages in Kibale Sub-county, bringing the total number of voting villages to 76.

After the fresh election, Katoko emerged victorious with 20,512 votes, while Namuganza received 17,764 votes.

Other candidates, including Paul Baite Bajje (1,593 votes), Andrew Mpanga (541 votes), and Siraji Gusongoirye (1,546 votes), trailed far behind.

Meanwhile, in Ntungamo Municipality, Yona Musinguzi was confirmed as the party flag bearer following fresh elections held in seven villages across the area.

Musinguzi secured 5,740 votes in a largely uncontested race, as other aspirants boycotted the election, leaving him effectively competing against himself.

In Buyende District, Sarah Namulondo was declared winner of the District Woman MP flag after receiving a total of 86,580 votes.

The elections, conducted in 57 villages following a tribunal directive, saw Namulondo outperform her closest competitors, Annet Mary Nakato (57,527 votes) and Robina Kaima Achom (24,991 votes), by a significant margin.

These results reinforce the position of previously declared NRM flag bearers ahead of the general elections, while highlighting continued challenges for incumbents such as Namuganza in constituencies where tribunal rulings have mandated fresh polls.
